Background
Building on the strong participation and insights from the July 2025 session, this second webinar advances the regional dialogue on how cutting-edge ENSO science is informing operational forecasting and climate services. While research has improved understanding of ENSO diversity, predictability, and impacts, these gains are not consistently reflected in operational practice. Closing that gap is critical for actionable, user-centered services supporting agriculture, energy, health, disaster risk reduction, and other climate-sensitive sectors across the Americas.
Objectives
- Present recent scientific insights on ENSO dynamics and forecasting—including lessons from the 2023 El Niño.
- Showcase seasonal and subseasonal prediction progress across the Americas.
- Identify gaps between global products and national applications.
- Highlight sectoral uses of ENSO information and opportunities to co-design services with users.
Expected audience
Scientists, operational forecasters and technical staff of regional centers and national meteorological and hydrological services in Latin America and the Caribbean; sectoral practitioners (agriculture, energy, health).
