Luz Cumba Garcia is an immunologist who has worked at the intersection of biomedical science, public policy, and science diplomacy. She was a AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow at the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID), under the Bureau for the Middle East. She worked with the Middle East Regional Cooperation (MERC) Program, a research grants program that promotes Arab-Israeli scientific cooperation and regional development. Her experiences in science diplomacy include being a founding member of the Science Diplomacy Network in Latin America and the Caribbean (DiploCientifica) and alumni of the AAAS Science Diplomacy and Leadership Workshop, the AAAS/TWAS Science Diplomacy Course, and the InnScid SP Science Diplomacy School. She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Immunology and a B.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology. Luz was born in San Juan, PR, and is passionate about advocacy, science communication, and community outreach.
