How is science diplomacy applied? What mechanisms allow scientific evidence to become a key tool for international cooperation and decision-making?

In this webinar, panelists will explore how science diplomacy influences both public policy design and the creation of concrete solutions to socio-environmental problems. They will also analyze the curriculum of the free, open course with certificate “Scientific Diplomacy and Global Environmental Change in the Americas,” created by the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) in collaboration with the University of São Paulo (USP).

The course was created based on 17 real-world case studies, simulation games, and online content that helps participants learn about examples of how science has been a bridge for international collaboration, addressing issues ranging from natural resource management to the inclusion of indigenous communities in decision-making processes.

During the webinar, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn in detail about the structure and content of the curriculum and the online course based on it.
  • Analyze case studies that demonstrate how science diplomacy has driven international collaboration projects in the Americas.
  • Explore the levels of training (asynchronous online course, in-person training, co-creation of case studies) and how they adapt to different professional contexts.
  • Learn about the cases and training events of the IAI’s Science Diplomacy Center in various countries.
