The book brings together 17 pioneering case studies that illustrate how science diplomacy can address urgent socio-environmental challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The editorial coordination was led by Marcella Ohira, Director of the Science Diplomacy Center. The research team is based at the University of S\u00e3o Paulo and includes Am\u00e2ncio Jorge de Oliveira, Janina Onuki, Gabriela Ferreira, Rodrigo Lyra, Romeu Bonk, Andr\u00e9 Bafti, and Fl\u00e1via Loss.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The book covers fundamental concepts of science diplomacy and innovation and identifies the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relevant to each case study. The cases illustrate how science is applied in international negotiations, environmental cooperation, public health, indigenous governance, space technology, among others. Examples include cross-border work such as the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor (CMAR), the Amazon Indigenous Platform (ARPIP), cooperation on health and climate change in the Andes, and the case of the lithium industry in South America.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This book is unique in its approach because it focuses on the challenges and opportunities of science diplomacy in and from Latin America and the Caribbean. In addition, it addresses a wide variety of cases, from diplomatic conflicts to far-reaching collaborative initiatives.
