2012 \u2013 2018<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Under the third Collaborative Research Network Program (CRN 3), 2012-2018<\/strong>, two groups of projects were funded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  1. a) 10 five-year projects, with grants ranging from US$700,000 to US$1,000,000, selected from an initial general call for proposals and another call focused on ecosystem services;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. b) 7 smaller projects, ranging from US$98,000 to US$200,000, with a duration of up to 3 years.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    In total, 112 researchers from 90 institutions in 15 IAI member countries participated in these 17 research networks, dedicated to studying global change phenomena in their social context through multinational and multidisciplinary cooperation. In addition, the strengthening of links between science and decision-making was promoted. During the last period, 239 students received scholarships from CRN 3 projects, of which 73 were funded by the IAI. The project researchers are the tutors of these students. To date, 371 students have attended workshops organized by the projects.The Third Cooperative Research Network Program (CRN 3), 2012-2018, with 10 approved projects, studied the impacts of anthropogenic activities on marine and terrestrial ecosystems. Such activities-including agriculture, road construction and urban development, among others-affect the ecology and ultimately human health. In addition to providing funding for these interdisciplinary and international projects, by inviting CRN projects to work together, the IAI Executive Directorate promotes the creation of thematic or methodological groups, or networks of networks. Thus, a physical oceanography project investigating meteorological and oceanic effects on biodiversity is connected to a more global project of oceanographic observations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    After ten years of promoting interdisciplinary research, the IAI decided to study the process of scientific integration itself in order to address some of the limitations and difficulties and to build on the achievements. To this end, a call was launched within the framework of CRN 3, aimed at the social sciences. A set of seven small projects was approved that studied the interdisciplinary process from different points of view – case studies and relationship with CRN 3 projects – both in terms of research and training in order to actively address scientific integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In the framework of an agreement between CONICET (Argentina) and the IAI, CONICET awards complementary grants for the period 2014-2017 to CONICET scientists who were part of CRN3 projects. These grants complemented ongoing research activities within the framework of the CRN3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
