The IAI Directorate, the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will host a Workshop on South-South Cooperation for Climate and Sustainable Development Progress on 20 August from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Radisson Victoria Plaza Hotel in Montevideo, Uruguay during the Latin American and Caribbean Climate Week from 20 to 23 August 2018.
With the entry into force of the Paris Agreement under the UNFCCC, countries are working towards its effective implementation. South-South cooperation (SSC), as a complement to North-South cooperation, is gaining momentum in matching resources, skills and capacities to enable developing countries to achieve their sustainable development goals and implement the Paris Agreement on climate change.
This Workshop aims to enhance the understanding and to promote awareness of the potential of SSC and triangular cooperation in the Latin American and the Caribbean region. Discussions will center on how to make full use of the critical, complementary role of SSC and triangular cooperation to overcome shared challenges for accelerated progress towards sustainable development and implementation of the Paris Agreement.
