Observers

The Conference of the Parties of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research may grant States not Party to the Agreement Establishing the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research, international organizations and other entities permanent observer Status.

The Agreement Establishing the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research and the Standing Rules of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research have no provisions related to granting permanent observer status.

The process is described in an official document approved by the CoP-32, May 2024, by Decision XXXII/20 and published on this page. The permanent observer status could be granted to States, intergovernmental organizations, non governmental organizations, and other entities whose activities cover matters of interest to the IAI.

The Bureau of the Executive Council to the IAI considers applications for permanent observer status before they are considered in the meeting of the Conference of the Parties.

Permanent observers may participate in the meetings of the Conference of the Parties and the meetings of the Executive Council. The Executive Council and Intersessional Committees may also invite observers to participate in the Intersessional Committees’ work.
