Irene Torres is Strategic Advisor at the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), where she focuses on initiatives in the climate-environment-health nexus, open data, and science dissemination and communication.
She is a member of the Advisory Committee of the Fragile and Conflict-Affected Global Environments Thematic Working Group at Health Systems Global, a member of the International Council of the Global Society on Migration, Ethnicity, Race and Health, and an affiliated researcher of the UNESCO Chair in Global Health and Education. She is a former board member of the Ecuadorian Society of Public Health.
She has a PhD in health promotion from Aarhus University (Denmark), a master's degree from Northeastern University (Boston, USA) and a bachelor's degree from Rutgers University (New Brunswick, USA). She does research in public policy and health systems from an equity perspective, community participation in health promotion, migration and health, and health promotion in educational settings. She was the winner of the INNOVACYT 2019 award granted by the Government of Ecuador.
