IAI JSPG Special Edition Training Events

Leading up to the submission deadline, JSPG and IAI will organize a series of training sessions to provide prospective authors with opportunities to practice policy writing, and to inspire and empower them with expert perspectives on science-policy communication to inform their submissions to the Special Issue.

Science policy paper writing workshop: October 31, 2022, 1:00-2:30pm ET: Writing Workshop on Transdisciplinarity and Communication. This workshop will provide a broad overview of the topics in the Special Issue, followed by instructions for writing policy papers and opportunities to practice developing paper outlines in breakout rooms with feedback from reviewers. For the purposes of this workshop, breakout rooms will focus on the two subsequent webinar themes.   ​

Webinar 1: November 28, 2022, 1:00-2:00pm ET: Transdisciplinarity in the Development of Science Policy and Diplomacy Outputs. This webinar will provide a deeper look at the transdisciplinary approach in practice to address GEC challenges. Expert panelists from across the Americas will highlight their experiences and tools used to cultivate more evidence-based, inclusive and effective science policy-diplomacy action. The webinar will be interactive as the audience and panelists will discuss different methodologies for scoping, stakeholder mapping and engagement to encourage outputs that are timely and useful for a diversity of end-users. 

Webinar 2: December 12, 2022, 2:00-3:00pm ET: Science Policy and Diplomacy Communication and the Global South. This webinar will focus on the skills needed for culturally sensitive dissemination of published work to approach stakeholders who can put information into action using various communication platforms including presentations to non-academic audiences, pitches, and social media. The webinar will also connect with the audience on ways to build and maintain coalitions to address shared challenges for the synthesis and uptake of GEC science at the policy and diplomacy interfaces.
