Funding and training initiative for climate, environment and health responders for the Americas
In partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Global Consortium on Climate and Health Education (GCCHE) at Columbia University, the IAI has launched the training initiative "Climate, Environment and Health Responders in the Americas: Mobilizing transdisciplinary knowledge and training for policy action.” The aim is to enhance the capacity of professionals and institutions across the Americas to address challenges at the intersection of climate, environment and health through a transdisciplinary approach.
Weekly, more than 100 participants attend the course corresponding to the first phase of the program, including: government officials at the national and sub-national levels; members and leaders of communities, and civil society; knowledge users, and researchers addressing key sectors (medicine, epidemiology, public health, environment, climate, weather/meteorological services).
Participants are being trained in transdisciplinary research by Gabriela Alonso Yánez and Lily House-Peters and in science communication by Angelo Attanasio (Latinoamérica 21), Marcelo Rinesi (Axenya), Ana Pais (Radio Ambulante), Pamela Poo and Juan Sarasua (Divulgación Científica). The course is also featuring case studies by Gilma Mantilla (Pontificia Universidad Javeriana), Stella Hartinger (Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia), Nicole Arbour (Belmont Forum) and Mercy Borbor-Córdova (ESPOL).
