The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) invites you to the webinar "Nanotechnology to confront global change," an event that brings together experts in nanotechnology to discuss its role in addressing the most pressing challenges related to climate, health, and the environment. This event will be held in commemoration of International Nanotechnology Day on 9 October.

Nanotechnology is one of the most promising emerging fields in modern science, with the potential to transform sectors such as medicine and environmental sustainability. By manipulating matter at the nanoscale, innovative materials and applications have been developed, offering solutions to complex problems. However, ethical, social, and environmental concerns also arise, requiring a scientific diplomacy approach to ensure its responsible and equitable implementation.

The webinar will feature three leading experts in the field of nanotechnology:

  • Vanesa Ayala-Núñez: Senior Researcher at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) in Switzerland  and Project Manager of the "Contact Point Nano", an international nanotechnology project.
  • Karla Oyuky Juárez Moreno: Expert in nanotoxicology currently leading research at the Center for Applied Physics and Advanced Technology (CFATA), part of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Mexico.
  • Gema González: Head of the IVIC Center for Materials Engineering and Nanotechnology and Dean of Physics and Nanotechnology at YACHAY Tech University, Ecuador.

The event will address the importance of scientific collaboration and diplomacy in promoting nanotechnology as a tool that can positively contribute to sustainable development in a global change context. The discussions will focus on how nanotechnology can offer innovative solutions to health, climate, and environmental challenges in the 21st century.
