SRI/SSD2024: Global Meeting on Science and Innovation in Sustainability

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) participated in the recent Sustainability Research and Innovation Congress (SRI) and the Finnish Sustainability Science Days (SSD), held jointly as SRI/SSD2024.

Anna Stewart, Executive Director of the IAI, along with Nicole Arbour, Executive Director of the Belmont Forum, participated in the opening ceremony, sharing their expertise and vision on international cooperation and scientific innovation to address current environmental challenges.

During the event, the Belmont Forum's Collaborative Research Action (CRA) FORESTS 2024 was presented, an initiative supported by over 11 funders in partnership with the G20. The call will bring together global experts to address the urgent challenges faced by tropical forests, developing innovative solutions to protect these crucial ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.

SRI/SSD2024, which was held in Europe for the first time following previous editions in Oceania, Africa, and Latin America, brought together more than 2,000 participants from over 100 countries, both online and in person. The central themes of the event included:
