The IAI Executive Directorate recently signed collaboration agreements with several regional organizations to work together in the coming years to foster the exchange of information in the Americas and to improve the scientific capacity of the region to meet the current challenges of global change.
Five Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), one Framework Agreement, and one Declaration of Interest (DoI) were signed. The MoUs were signed with the Foundation for Research and Innovation of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil (FAPESC), for collaborative activities and information exchange for sustainable economic development and human welfare; the Central American Agricultural Council (CAC) for capacity building in areas related to climate action and food systems and nutrition; the Agencia Nacional de Investigación e Innovación (ANII) of Uruguay to cooperate in science and technology innovation activities; and the Universidad de las Indias Occidentales and the Centro de Investigación para el Cambio Global (CICAG) of the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales (FACEN) of the Universidad Nacional de Asunción to undertake initiatives in transdisciplinary science related to climate change, local communities, and biodiversity, among other topics.
The IAI also signed a Framework Agreement with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) focused on technical cooperation and a DoI with the United Nations Development Coordination Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (DCO- LAC) to work together to fulfill the 2030 Agenda.
These agreements will provide new opportunities to produce more knowledge and support policies related to environmental, health, and quality of life challenges in the region, as well as expand the institute's community and work.
