IAI and MCTI of Brazil strengthen cooperation in science and scientific diplomacy

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) will strengthen its collaboration with the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI) within the framework of the new National Strategy for Science, Technology, and Innovation 2025-2035.

This strategy, presented by Luciana Barbosa de Oliveira Santos, Brazil's Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, highlights four fundamental axes: consolidation of the national STI system, sustainable reindustrialization, and social development through science and innovation for national strategic projects. In this context, the IAI is positioned as a key partner to foster international scientific cooperation and strengthen the connection between science and public policies.

One of the main results of this collaboration is the launch of the STeP Fellowship program, a joint initiative between the IAI and the MCTI that will train scientific advisors specialized in scientific diplomacy throughout the Americas. This program seeks to prepare professionals capable of linking science with decision-making on issues of global environmental change, a priority area for both institutions.

In addition, the First MCTI-IAI Workshop and Forum on Scientific Diplomacy, scheduled for August 2025 in Brasilia, will be a key space to consolidate scientific collaboration networks in the region. This event will bring together experts, researchers, and decision-makers to explore how science can strengthen public policies and address shared environmental challenges.

The partnership between IAI and Brazil reflects a firm commitment to promote the use of scientific knowledge as a tool for sustainability, social inclusion, and international cooperation in the Americas.
