The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) is pleased to announce the signing of a cooperation agreement with FONPLATA – Development Bank, which is part of the partnerships established within the framework of COP30.
This collaboration connects two essential pillars for the region:
- IAI, an intergovernmental institution that brings together 19 countries in the Americas to strengthen science, capacity building, and science-policy dialogue on climate change, biodiversity, and global change.
- FONPLATA, with more than 50 years of experience financing regional integration and sustainable infrastructure.
The agreement will create a shared space where scientific evidence, public policy, and development financing work together to address the challenges of global change. Among the expected joint actions are:
- Integrating the best available scientific evidence into the design, implementation, and evaluation of FONPLATA-financed projects.
- Co-designing tools such as guidelines for drought management, climate services, and early warnings.
- Supporting initiatives for climate change adaptation and mitigation, sustainable water management, and biodiversity conservation, linking academic institutions, public agencies, and local communities.
- Promoting the use of open data to strengthen the interoperability of information systems.
- Participating in regional and international forums and mobilizing resources for climate, biodiversity, and sustainable development.
For the IAI, this alliance is an opportunity to translate more than three decades of inter-American research and scientific diplomacy into concrete impacts: better-prepared cities, more resilient infrastructure, and evidence-based public policies.
This collaboration will connect scientists and public authorities with a common goal: inclusive, resilient, and science-based development.
