The aim of this work was to characterize the climate variability of the northern coast of Bahia Blanca estuary (Argentina) in order to develop land use policies to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants. Climatic data in different time-scales for the 1960-2014 period was analyzed. Likewise, the Fast Fourier Transform, the Standardized Precipitation Index and standard statistical techniques were applied. As a result, the air temperature increased 0.9 ºC, the relative humidity and rainfall presented wet and dry periods related to El Niño and La Niña events respectively. Maximum wind direction decreased 7.5 km h-1 in the 1986-2010 period. Finally, the effects of the climate variability in the region allowed outlining the guidelines for a sustainable land management plan.
