This paper discusses how livelihood strategies vary by stages of household lifecycle in agricultural frontiers.  Based on a  25-years longitudinal dataset of smallholders in  Ma-chadinho d ́Oeste, Rondônia, we found a de-creasing prediction ability of life cycle mark-ers on livelihoods dynamics as frontiers integrate into markets, and a higher probability of livelihoods diversification among second generation households.
