Dr. Barbieri has a Phd in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He currently teaches at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil and has taught a Masters course on Sustainable Development Practices at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He was a research scholar at Duke University and Associate Faculty of the International Health Department at John Hopkins University and has served as Director of the Steering Committee of the Population and Environment Research Network at Columbia University in New York. He leads several national and international research projects and has experience in the area of Demography with an emphasis on population spatial distribution on the themes of population mobility, population and the environment, demographic dynamics in the Amazon and cities as well as urban and regional planning.
